The Hobie Wave

It seems as if there isn't a beach resort in the world that doesn't have a fleet of Hobie Waves  This Hobie Wave is ubiquitous and it's synonymous with clean, simple fun.

The Hobie 14 and 16 were enormously popular in the 1960's, but by the mid 1990's, the company was looking for a new direction. Hobie turned to Morrelli & Melvin for an inexpensive, entry-level beach cat.  Morrelli & Melvin designed the Hobie Wave and built the prototypes in its shop.  The company also  introduced Hobie to rotomolded polyethylene plastic boat development.  The Hobie Wave is one of the best sailing catamaran products on the market.

The Wave is quick to assemble, fast, and exciting to sail. Hobie's roto-molded polyethylene manufacturing process makes the 13-foot catamaran lightweight, yet durable.

Hobie Cat, Inc. celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2008 with a weekend regatta at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California.  Over 100 Hobie Cats raced and hundreds more who are committed to the Hobie way of life came out to see legends such as Hobie Alter and generations of Hobie sailors.
