GUNBOAT catamarans are known for the highest performance of any yacht in their size range. The key factors contributing to their phenomenal speed are:
Low weight due to advanced structural engineering, best materials, and race-boat quality construction methods
Advanced hull forms that offer low resistance, excellent manuverability, and a smooth ride
Optimized daggerboard and rudder shapes for low-drag and high pointing ability upwind
Carbon fiber spars, composite rigging, and adavnced sail designs help reduce weight and increase sailing efficeincy
The unique forward cockpit design allow these yachts to be sailed efficiently and with a minimum of crew and effort. The forward cockpit allows for a clean and uncluttered deck arrangement. These yachts are ideal for island hopping, course racing, or long distance ocean voyages.
By design, the GUNBOAT offers the highest level of safety in the industry with positive bouyancy and multiple watertight compartments in each hull.
Peter Johnstone and Clint Clemens commisioned the first 62' versions in 2001. Four GUNBOAT 62's were eventually built. The 62 has been superceded by the GUNBOAT 66, the first of which will be delivered in early 2008. The GUNBOAT 48 was added to the product line in 2005. In 2007, design and construction of the GUNBOAT 90 began.
