Morrelli & Melvin, collaborating with Lancashire, UK based WindCat Workboats, has completed resistance, drag and safekeeping tests on a new MK4 series of WindCat Workboats designed to transport crews to offshore wind farms and difficult to access sites. Driven by twin 750 hp Volvo marine diesels, the 24-meter aluminum vessels can travel in excess of 30 knots per hour.  

WindCat Workboats has vessels working in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands and Belgium. Accessing offshore wind farm installations, which are often located in dangerous waters, can prove difficult, especially during hazardous weather conditions. WindCat Workboats offers a safe and more comfortable solution to the challenges of delivering crews to and from hostile offshore environments.

WindCat has developed a patent pending step-up system where the hulls of the boat are "parked" upon a horizontal extension from the wind farm tower. This eliminates vertical movement of the boat while transferring crew and supplies to the offshore site. The innovative "docking" system is safer for the people and prevents damage to the ocean structure in rough seas.

In addition to a variety of crew comforts, like DVD player, flat panel video, state of the art audio systems and a generous galley, the WindCat has a variety of practical features, like a crane arm and generous storage capacity. WindCat Workboats operates and manages a commercial fleet of 49 foot crew boats and is in the process of building a new 78 foot work boat to add to the fleet.
