Shadow - Formula 40

“Shadow"(FKA "Stars & Stripes) is a VERY FAST, FUN Formula 40 Catamaran - designed by Gino Morrelli

Co-built by Gino Morrelli and Bob DeLong at RD Boatworks in Capistrano Beach California - this was the next generation design following Gino’s F40 World Champion “Smyth Team” design that dominated the inaugural French Formula Forty season in 1986.

All carbon/epoxy/foam/vacuum-bagged - "Shadow" is the lightest F40 cat ever built. She has been constantly updated and professionally maintained - and it is estimated that her replacement cost would be in excess of $300,000 - today.

Shadow has an impressive provenance and history. Launched in 1987, "Shadow" began her life as “Richmond” where she was sailed by a Belgian crew in France, before being purchased by Dennis Conner of America’s Cup fame. Renamed “Stars and Stripes” by the SDYC syndicate, she was put into service as a training boat, leading up to the 1988 America’s Cup - preparing Dennis and his team for their most lopsided victory in America’s Cup history. After the 1988 America’s Cup, she was sailed in Hawaii for a few years - then purchased and renamed “Shadow” by her current owner in San Francisco - where she has compiled an enviable race record, including winning the Rolex Big Boat series in 2012.

Although Shadow is primarily a race boat she is easy to sail, very stable for a racing cat and can be easily sailed by experienced amateurs. She can make an ideal day sailing thrill ride boat or the fastest, most exciting boat in a day charter fleet. She was built in Southern California, so fully legal as a charter boat under USCG requirements.

This is a rare opportunity to own, sail, race, cruise or charter a professionally maintained, topof- the-line, well equipped, truly exhilarating high- performance catamaran!
